The Latest in Acne Treatments

May 23, 2024

Acne is commonly caused by excess oil. This clogs the pores of the skin and results in pimples, whiteheads, or blackheads. Acne can be disfiguring and leave scarring. Below we suggest some of the latest treatments you can consider if you are suffering from acne.

Prescriptions for Acne

When acne has become a problem and over-the-counter creams are not helping, pharmacies recommend seeing a dermatologist who can prescribe a much stronger medical solution. There are several medical treatments for acne. Your dermatologist may prescribe pills to be taken by mouth along with special ointments for local application. However, if you are pregnant, you may not be able to take oral medication. In this case, your doctor may prescribe Azelaic acid, which is safe in pregnancy but might cause minor skin irritation.

The minimum treatment usually includes washing your face twice a day and applying the cream your doctor has prescribed for you. Retinoids and Dapsone are common prescriptions. Side effects include redness, dry skin, and sun sensitivity. For a less irritating option, Cannabidiol (CBD) for acne is expected to be on the market in the near future.

Dermaplaning

Dermaplaning is a fairly simple treatment that carries minimal risk. This manual exfoliation treatment is performed with a small surgical blade. As well as clearing away dead skin cells, it also removes the scarring of even severe acne. It needs to be repeated every four to six weeks but, during that time, you will have reduced wrinkles and your skin will appear younger and smoother. The hardest part of getting this treatment is finding someone trained in this therapy. Check out Clever Contours if you’re looking for Beauty treatments Cheshire-based.

A session of dermaplaning can be combined with a chemical peel. This treatment involves covering the skin with a chemical that peels off the top layer of skin, reducing wrinkles, fine lines, and acne. It also works on freckles and age spots and can be used for the hands as well.

LED Light Therapy

Your face, neck, and chest are the first places to show signs of aging. LED light therapy can be used on any part of the body but most effectively on these areas where extra TLC is needed. Though considered safe, it should be used with caution if you are on any treatment that increases sun sensitivity. Because LED light therapy is non-invasive, it can generally be used without harm. The blue wavelength of light reduces the oil produced by the sebaceous glands while the red frequency reduces the visible signs of aging and lessens scarring. LED lights were designed by NASA originally to nurture plant growth in outer space. They have been shown to promote wound healing and to help human tissue grow.

Useful for acne, LED light therapy is also used to treat psoriasis, eczema, rosacea, dermatitis, wound healing, wrinkling, sun damage, age spots, dull skin, scarring, and inflammation of the skin.

The quality of your life can be impaired by acne. It can make you reluctant to go out with your friends, meet new people, and generally enjoy your life. There are many treatments available, and these have become safer. A dermatologist or quality salon will be able to help you leave acne behind you.
