Nowadays, more and more people want to work towards being eco-friendly. Honestly, it’s so easy to see why too. With the rise in climate change and the fact that there is more waste in landfills, why support destroying the world? One thing that you, everyone else, and wildlife can thrive off of would-be eco-friendly habits. Even small everyday things, from showering and cleaning to shopping, can make a difference. Yes, even shopping can have eco-friendly habits, so here is everything you need to know!

Reuse and recycle electronic devices

Recycling your electronic devices when making purchases can save the environment, conserve resources, and help reduce the overall quantity of e-waste. The materials used to make electronics, including precious metals, can be recovered through recycling. If you have an old computer or a cell phone, you can donate it to a nonprofit or school that needs it. Donating your electronics also helps lower-income families access the necessary equipment. Alternatively, if you have a broken phone, instead of buying a new one, why not consider iPhone repair services?

Avoid microbeads

Microbeads are tiny plastic particles that are used in the manufacturing of personal care products. They work in a variety of ways, such as cleansing, bulking, and exfoliating. However, microbeads pose a threat to the environment and wildlife. In addition to the health risks, microbeads are harmful to the oceans and waterways.

About 90 percent of sea birds have microplastic waste in their stomachs. These tiny particles travel up the food chain to larger animals and end up in lakes, rivers, and the ocean. Items such as glitter would be considered microplastic, so avoid this at all costs if you can.

Buy in season

When it comes to grocery shopping, specifically produce, you can make eco-friendly purchases by solely choosing to buy items that are in season. A good rule of thumb would be to check out farmers’ markets, as they only carry what’s in season. For instance, pumpkins are in season during late summer; the same goes for blackberries.

If you see these in the grocery store during any other period of the year, they’re most likely shipped there (which isn’t eco-friendly) or have to be grown in a major greenhouse. Buying in season can help show businesses that customers prefer to buy in-season, which is far more eco-friendly.

Buy organic and natural products

When shopping for food, hygiene, and other items, consider buying organic and natural products to be eco-friendly with your purchases. The benefits of these types of products are numerous and include reduced exposure to pesticides and antibiotic-resistant bacteria. When you’re supporting these products, you support a healthier and cleaner ecosystem thanks to the lack of pesticides.

Overall, it’s so important to keep in mind that being eco-friendly can be fun. It doesn’t have to be as expensive as you may expect, and sometimes embracing this lifestyle can even make everything in your home more affordable. Overall, you can change the world, and changing your consumer habits can go a long way.
