The benefits of travel are abundant. Of course, they include getting to explore new places, try noble things, and meet new people. However, there is one more benefit that most people convert these days, getting a great photo to share on social media. After all, if you’re not showing your last trip off, have you ever really been? In all seriousness though, taking time to photograph the places you visit can be an enriching experience, and with that in mind, you can get the low down of the most photographic locations in the city of San Fran in the post below.

Alcatraz

Of course, your first stop with a smartphone in hand needs to be the world-famous prison, Alcatraz. In fact, you can get some fantastic shots both inside and outside of the building here.

While outside, focus on getting a shot of the entire island. The reason being that this will help to convey just how isolated and soul-destroying Alcatraz was if you were sentenced there. Inside shots of the cells of famous inmates, or even one of the many ghosts that haunt the halls should be your main priority.

Lombard street

For the best shots of Lombard street stand (on the path) at the bottom and try and get it all the twists and turns of this famous hairpin road. Spring and summer are the seasons of choice because then all the flowers and foliage at the side of the road should be in bloom as well.

The Golden Gate Bridge

No trip to San Francisco is complete without some snaps of the iconic Golden Gate Bridge. If you are looking for a shot with the whole city spread out behind the bridge, then heading to Hawk Hill is your best bet. Although, both Alcatraz and the Golden Gate Overlook and Visitors Center are also good options for a panoramic shot.

Pier 39

If you are looking to capture the nautical vibe that San Francisco offers, then you can do no better than to head down to the pier 39. In fact there you will find wood-shingled buildings in bright colors perfect for Instagram. You may even see a sea lion or two if you are lucky!

Museum of Illusion

San Francisco also has a wealth of photogenic and fun museums to take pictures of and in, as well. In particular, the Museum of Illusion is an excellent bet for Instagrammers because the entire idea is that you take a picture of yourself as part of the exhibits. In fact, the scenes you will find there are designed that way and certainly provide you with both unusual and exciting photographic opportunities.

Muir Woods National Monument

Finally, if you are looking for a great spot to take a picture in the San Francisco area, then you must take a trip to Muir Woods National Monument. This being a forest that is full of giant redwoods and charming woodland walks.

Big trees, small people. Feeling like ants in Muir Woods.

Do remember to take a tripod to stabilize your shots though. It’s also advisable to get there either early in the morning or later in the afternoon for the best views unhindered by other visitors. Then you should be able to get some epic snaps like the ones below, for Instagram or any other social media.
