Few things beat the feeling of going car shopping and welcoming four new wheels into your life. In those first weeks, it’s likely you’ll look for any excuse to head out and spend a little time inhaling that fresh new-car scent. But, it’s impossible to ignore that this is often a bittersweet experience. As enjoyable as it is to get a new car, it’s also painful. After all, aside from your house, this is probably the most expensive thing you own. And, your bank balance is sure to sting in the aftermath. The good news is, as with any sting, there’s an anti-venom to at least make that pain worth it. In this case, that antivenom comes in the form of protecting your investment. And, we’re going to look at a few different ways you can apply it to the wound.

Careful driving

One of the main things you can do to protect your new car is to drive carefully. That means you shouldn’t test that speed gauge whenever you get the chance. This car might be faster than any you’ve had before, but you’d be mad to take that risk. Instead, treat this like the valuable investment it is. Stick to the speed limit, and make sure to avoid any scrapes with other cars. These are things you should do anyway. But, the money you’ve just forked out definitely provides an added incentive. Cutting corners here could see your new vehicle damaged before the factory smell has left your interiors.

Cover yourself and your car

Your good driving can’t always account for those on the road around you. Hence, you also need to pay attention to covering repair costs if anything does happen. That means taking out both a warranty and an insurance policy. That way, you’re covered for any eventuality. Hyundai owners can get a free quote for a Hyundai extended warranty from companies like Carchex, while Ford owners can head online to find similar plans. Whichever vehicle you own, there’s sure to be a policy which suits your need. All you have to do is go out and get it.

A safe place to park

The protection doesn’t stop once you get your car home. A new and shiny vehicle is sure to attract thieves if you don’t take precautions. Having an insurance policy in place does mean you won’t be out of pocket if someone does take a liking to your car. But, it’s best to avoid this wherever possible. As such, parking in the street should be a no-go. If you don’t have a garage of your own, it might be worth hiring one to keep your vehicle safe. If you do have a garage but generally park on your drive, it’s time to think again. Life might be easier that way, but it’s a sure way to invite thieves into your midst. Instead, clear out that junk from the garage and make sure you put an alarm system in place to keep it secure.
