All the work you put into making your home wonderful pays off as you have a comforting place to call your own. It’s so nice to be able to entertain family and friends in your space. In order to keep your haven safe through the seasons, there are certain measures you need to take. As the seasons change, so do the needs of your home – so get started with these seasonal safety checks to safeguard your beloved home.

All-Season Safety

There are some things you should inspect regularly, regardless of the season. Keep your home safe by testing smoke detectors, carbon monoxide detectors, fire extinguishers, and GFCI outlets twice a year. General cleaning and visually inspecting your home are duties you need to carry out no matter the weather. This keeps you aware of any upcoming repairs that may go unnoticed otherwise. For example, you can save yourself a lot of hassle if you notice any issue with outlets or cords that require professional work. Just search online for what you need – say electrical repairs Houston – and have peace of mind knowing your home will stay safe.

Warm Weather Safety

As the weather heats up, it’s important to take advantage of the warmth for repairs such as HVAC and roof inspections. This is also a great time to get outside and clean the gutters, particularly if there are a lot of trees nearby. If so, you may want to consider installing gutter covers, which can help prevent clogs that lead to water damage. Warm temperatures also offer a good time to inspect windows and repair screens. This will help keep pests out of your home but allows you to enjoy the fresh air.

Cold Weather Safety

Chilly weather brings another set of home maintenance needs. This is a time to get ahead of freezing temperatures and have your furnace, chimneys, and flues inspected and cleaned. Another simple but often forgotten thing to take care of is turning off the water access to outdoor spigots. While you’re at it, remember to empty any hoses and store them for the winter.  It’s also a great time to inspect and repair any seals around windows and doors to keep the frosty air out and the warm air in.

Taking great pride in your home also means keeping it safe for all seasons. Even if you don’t have all four seasons, it’s still best to create and stick to an inspection and maintenance schedule. This will keep you from being caught off guard by huge repair surprises.
