I recently had the opportunity to view the upcoming movie, Little Women. This is a modern-day version of the classic book and movie and a must-see film!
The story of Little Women follows the March sisters during their childhood years while their father was in the service and overseas. The movie never really touched the father’s story in the military much just made it known he wasn’t home until later in the movie when Beth got sick with leukemia for the first time. This classic story actually revolves around the older sister, Jo, who is writing a book. The girls have a secret club called the Pick Wick Club and act out Jo’s stories in the attic. At one particular meeting, they each write their dreams for the future on their castle flags which were placed in their own special spots in the attic. Jo, who was a feminist had no desire to be a wife nor a mother, and all that Beth wanted as to be home and cancer free.
They all have hopes and dreams, just as we all do as well, so it’s easy to relate to the girls and their mother. I also love this modern version because as it shows us flashbacks from their younger years, we can see how they have grown and although they’ve struggled with things along the way, they bounce back and never give up on their dreams and aspirations. What it comes down to is that they are there for each other through everything, and bonded, which is exactly what family should be for each other.
I would definitely recommend this movie to anyone, whether you’ve seen the original version or not. It’s a wonderful story of family, love, and life and it’s available in theaters everywhere on September 28th!
