Anyone in the surrounding Houston area can attest to how many interesting things there are to do in Houston during almost any time of the year. Next month, there is something really exciting and very family-friendly...The CAF Wings Over Houston Airshow! Awesome!
This will be the first year that my family will attend the Airshow and my boys are super excited! It's not every day that we are able to see performances by authentic jets and amazing groups like the U.S. Navy Blue Angels. In addition to the Blue Angels, there are some amazing civilian performers scheduled as well. Sean D. Tucker will perform in his custom made Oracle Challenger perhaps for the very last time as a solo pilot, as he's developing a four-ship demo for next year.
The Aeroshell Team and aircraft will return to Ellington Airport after not having been in Houston for many years. Hundreds of these aircraft were once based right here at Ellington Field which was one of the training fields for World War II pilots.
The Beech18 will be Matt Younkin's performance plane this year. It was built in 1943 by the Beechcraft Corporation at Wichita, Kansas. Designated an AT-7C, this aircraft was bought new by the United States Army Air Corps and spent the duration of the war as a navigation trainer based at Houston's Ellington Army Air Field.
Debby Rihn-Harvey is one of the highest ranked aerobatics competitors in the United States. Rihn-Harvey is also the longest standing member of the U.S. Unlimited Aerobatics Team, qualifying to represent the United States fifteen times in World Aerobatic Championships in North America and Europe.
That's just a small taste of the line-up for the Commemorative Air Force Wings Over Houston Airshow. To see the complete line-up visit the new airshow website!
Displays at the airshow include the Heroes and Legends Tent, Aircraft and so much more. There is also a really fun Kids Zone with Rock Climbing, Face Painting, the Motion Stimulator, NASA Driven to Explore and Go Karts. Food vendors will be on site to satisfy your appetite after viewing this spectacular show and plenty of souvenirs will be available to take home. As a special treat, the pilots are often available after their performances to sign autographs and meet the fans.
Make plans to attend with the entire family and enjoy a day out while experiencing the show of a lifetime! The CAF Wings Over Houston Airshow is scheduled for October 22nd and October 23rd, 2016.
