Greet Mom with a Margarita on Mother's Day!

This Mother's Day celebrate the special occasion with not only a well thought out gift for Mom, but also a cocktail that is just as sweet Mom. Sauza Tequila has created a delicious and fruity Strawberry Margarita that is the perfect treat to accompany Mother's Day brunch or other festivities and goes extremely well with any flowers, chocolate or jewelry that you plan to gift Mom on her special day.

After all, being a Mom, although very rewarding, is a tough job at times so every Mom deserves to be pampered, appreciated and recognized for all that she does throughout the year. Most of us love to celebrate this designated day but do you know how it all came about? Mother's Day as it's known today in the United States can be traced back to ancient Greek and Roman times and was once not associated with flowers, cards and other gifts at all. This particular day was started in 1868 to allow the mothers of Union and Confederate soldiers to get together to mourn and honor their fallen sons.

After that, there were actually several reasons that this day was recognized and it wasn't usually for celebrating. Women's groups in the United States started coming together in the late 1800s in West Virginia to tackle issues such as infant mortality to disease and even milk contamination. In 1870, Julia Ward Howe issued a "Mother's Day Proclamation," which urged women to become politically active and promote peace after the Civil War.

In 1908 the official holiday founder, Anna Jarvis, boycotted this holiday due to the commercialization that had evolved. She spent most of her personal wealth fighting the very holiday that she helped to conceive and even lobbied the United States government to remove it from the U.S. official calendar. Little known fact...Jarvis was not even a Mother herself!

No matter how or why you celebrate Mother's Day, be sure to enjoy the day with those you love and make plans to whip up a batch of Strawberry Margaritas!
