It's not just MONDAY ~ It's National Margarita Day!

For most of us, there's very little to celebrate and be excited about on a Monday. Between saying goodbye to the weekend and heading back to work or school and making sure that everyone is back on track and into the weekly routines, there's no better excuse to have a yummy cocktail!

This Monday, February 22nd is National Margarita Day and Sauza Tequila is proud to play a delicious role in everyone's favorite tequila cocktail while joining in on the holiday festivities. A recent survey conducted by Sauza Tequila revealed that margaritas are the most popular cocktails to order in a pitcher with friends (80 percent), followed by daiquiris (53 percent) and sangrias (49 percent.)

Who's up for a little margarita history lesson? To begin, the original margarita was invented in 1948 by socialite Margarita Sames and it was the top mixed drink of the year in 2008. Now, sixty-eight years later and the margarita is still going strong!

Many may not know that the world's ost expensive margarita is available at the 230 Fifth Rooftop Bar and Penthouse Lounge in Manhattan with a hefty price tag of $1200.00! This cocktail uses incredibly high-end ingredients, including Cristal Champagne and is served in a Ralph Lauren hand-blown Hungarian crystal glass that can be taken home as a souvenir. The good thing about this over-priced drink is that half of the money goes to the charity of the drinker's choice.

If you prefer a frozen concoction, you can thank inventor Mariano Martinez for the frozen margarita machine that came to be in the early 1970's. This 26-year-old Dallas restaurant owner was having trouble creating the frozen drink for his customers and after receiving complaints from bartenders and customers, he had the idea to transform a soft-serve ice cream machine into one that dispensed margaritas. This was obviously a huge success!

If you're planning to entertain, serving margaritas pitcher-style is an easy way to share drinks with friends, keeping you out of the kitchen and having fun during your gathering. And in celebration, we would be remiss not to offer a Sauza Classic Margarita. However, if you're craving a twist on the original, try a Perfect Pear Margarita or a Sauza Citrus Margarita. Either way, enjoy and Happy Margarita Day!
