While in Los Angeles last week, I had the amazing opportunity to interview Raffey Cassidy and Thomas Robinson, child stars from the movie Tomorrowland. Both were very down to earth, sweet and easy to talk with and Raffey's accent was adorable!
Our group had lots of questions for them and we learned quite a bit about what led them to Tomorrowland. Thomas said that an acting coach thought he would be a good fit for an upcoming project so he auditioned, got the part and things just snowballed from there. Raffey said that she never had a specific moment when she thought, "Oh, I want to be an actor." Like Thomas, she auditioned, landed a roll and then she said she just wanted to carry on from there because she was having so much fun.
Each discussed the preparation for their roles in Tomorrowland that included a lot of athletic development for Thomas. He actually trained on a flying trapeze and did indoor skydiving to prepare for his character. Raffey trained in martial arts and gymnastics which allowed her to do most of her own stunts. Thomas told us that he also trained with acting coaches but the script was so confidential that after reading his scenes, the script was locked away in a safe. Top Secret!
Kids will be kids, so it's not all work and no play for Raffey and Thomas. Raffey's hobbies include doing special effects make-up and Thomas told us that he loves to bake. When asked what his specialty was, he said "Lemon Bars!" Yum!
They filled us in on what it was like to film Tomorrowland and both said that George Clooney was very professional and kept the set very relaxed although he was fond of playing pranks on the cast and crew. When asked what advice they had for other children interested in pursuing an acting career, both agreed, "Never give up!" Thomas also added, "People are going to say no a lot...you're not going to get every part you go out for." "Don't give up and keep trying because if you're good at what you do just be yourself and something will happen." That's great advice Thomas!
After our session we had the opportunity to take a group photo with the Tomorrowland duo and as you can see below, everyone was super excited to be able to meet them and get a little insight. Thank you Raffey and Thomas!
