Tequila Twists on Classic #Cocktails for National Tequila Day

Did you know that today is National Tequila Day? That's right, it's the day to celebrate tequila and by law, you're almost obligated to participate! Celebrate today with a spirit that provides a smooth taste in each and every sip (or shot!) ~ Hornitos Tequila


With the rising popularity of tequila and the rising temperature of summer it's a great time to make a batch of frozen margaritas or one of the other awesome cocktail recipes below and set the stage for an epic celebration! Hornitos Spice Honey Tequila is a new addition to the Hornitos family, made from a combination of 100% agave Hornitos Plata Tequila with honey and a special spice blend ~ perfect for mixing cocktails or sipping from a shot glass. To get you into the spirit of National Tequila Day, we have a few interesting facts about tequila, a few may surprise you!

*Mexican law only permits tequila to be produced in the State of Jalisco and it is limited to regions in the state ~ Guanajuato, Michoacan, Nayarit and Tamualipas. 

*Mexico has the international rights to the word "tequila"

*Tequila contains 38-40% alcohol content but can also go up to 55% alcohol content

*Americans purchase 12.3 millions cases of tequila per year. Wow!

*Tequila is not made from cactus. Agave is actually in the lily family.

*It takes 8-12 years for the agave plant to mature enough to make tequila

*According to the Guinness Book of World Records, the most expensive bottle of tequila ever sold was purchased by a private collector for $225,000 in 2006. OMG! 

So, celebrate National Tequila Day however you choose, or pay homage with one of the cocktail recipes below. Happy National Tequila Day!

MexiCollins
  • 2 parts Hornitos Spiced Honey Tequila
  • 1/2 part lime juice
  • 2 parts grapefruit juice
  • Top with tonic
Preparation: Combine all ingredients except tonic in a shaker with ice. Shake vigorously and strain over fresh ice. Top with tonic.

Tequila Sour
  • 1 1/4 parts Hornitos Black Barrel Tequila
  • 1/4 part Agave
  • 1/2 part lemon juice
  • Lemon wedge
Preparation; Combine all ingredients in a shaker with ice. Shake vigorously and strain over fresh ice. Garnish with a lemon wedge.

Muy Caliente
  • 2 parts Hornitos Plata Tequila
  • 1/2 part lime juice
  • 3/4 part Simple Syrup
  • Jalapeno
Preparation: Muddle one jalapeno slice in a glass. Combine the remainder of ingredients in a shaker with ice. Shake vigorously and strain into the glass over fresh ice. Garnish with a jalapeno slice.
