I've always wanted to go to Mardi Gras and am making plans to attend next year in New Orleans. As I prepare for my vacation next year, I've been doing a little research on Mardi Gras costumes...how the tradition began, why it's done and so on. Mardi Gras is one of the biggest celebrations of the year, especially for those that enjoy dressing up and having a good time. This is obviously one season of the entire year for those that participate to dress up in costumes, and the more flamboyant, the better!
When choosing a costume, there are so many choices and even though there are many that attend the celebration in full-blown costumes, some may prefer to wear something a little less extravagant, but yet still a great disguise such as a Mardi Gras Mask.
Masks that are specifically designed for Mardi Gras are available in countless designs and styles. The basic Mardi Gras Mask is usually very elegant and adorned with gems, jewels and even feathers. For the party-goer who would prefer to disguise themselves, there are full-face masks in just about any style imagined. One of my favorite styles are the Jester masks. These fun and extravagant masks allow the person wearing it to become someone else while wearing it...someone fun, jolly and even majestic!
The Long Nose Masks are definitely a style that is intriguing to me yet a bit intimidating. These Italian masks are a long-standing tradition at any Mardi Gras affair and certainly grab the attention of all who come in contact with these mysterious presence.
No matter where you attend Mardi Gras or what type of costume you choose to wear, your time there is sure to be exciting and certainly memorable!
